Four stakeholders within the maritime cluster at Sunnmøre are jointly sponsoring a professorate in managing maritime operations at Ålesund University College. The group consists of Farstad Shipping, Island Offshore, Havila Shipping and Det Norske Veritas.
Farstad Shipping ASA is a major international supplier of large, modern offshore support vessels. The company's head quarter is located in Ålesund, Norway. Farstad Shipping also has offices in Aberdeen in Scotland, Melbourne in Australia, Singapore and in Macaé in Brazil. Through a joint venture they are also present in Angola.
Farstad Shipping has a fleet of 56 vessels and currently 2 vessels under construction.
The Island Offshore Group is a leading provider of services to the offshore industry ranging from Platform Supply and Anchor Handling to Advanced Subsea Operations including Increased Oil Recovery (IOR) and Light Well Intervention (LWI). Island Offshore's fleet consists of high quality vessels with an average age of less than 2 years. 11 vessels are currently operating in Brazil, Mexico, the USA and in the North Sea.
Havila Shipping ASA today operates 19 ships; platform supply vessels, anchor handling tug supply vessels, rescue- and recovery vessels. The company has a newbuilding program of 6 vessels.
